Doctor Bird — Jamaica's national bird

Built with love,
rooted in Jamaica.

My partner and I are expecting and we wanted a way to share our photos and memories in a private way without uploading to big box sites like Facebook. We felt like the privacy of our little one should be protected in this ever-changing world.

Our story

Paari started as a circle project, inspired by the Jamaican tradition of keeping your circle tight and your memories tighter. In Jamaica, community isn't a feature — it's a way of life. Sunday dinners, impromptu cookouts, stories passed down over the fence — these are the moments that matter.

However, we noted that people already have several other apps and this needs to be more compelling. We created a context switcher so people can communicate in different “circles” within the app — not an all-in-one solution. The Doctor Bird — Jamaica's national bird — guides our design as a symbol of resilience, beauty, and home. You'll see it throughout the app, a quiet reminder of where this all began.

“Paari” is Jamaican Patois — “mi paari” means “my close friend.” We named it Paari because that's exactly who this app is for — your closest circle.

The warm gold and deep green you see across Paari are drawn from the colours of our island. Subtle enough that you might not notice — but if you're from yard, you'll feel it.
